A brief report on a temporary network disruption caused by a VPN provider issue(1h 20m)

Hello,

Due to an internal issue on the side of NordVPN, outbound traffic for certain RDP virtual machines experienced intermittent connectivity problems for approximately one hour and twenty minutes.

These virtual machines were using VPN-based masking to preserve user anonymity, and as a result of the provider-side failure, normal outbound network communication was temporarily disrupted.

Mitigation Measures:

To prevent similar incidents in the future, we have implemented an automated fallback system using multiple additional VPN providers, including:

  • 1. ExpressVPN
  • 2. Mullvad
  • 3. Surfshark
  • 4. IPVanish

This system automatically switches providers in the event of a failure, significantly reducing the likelihood of prolonged service disruption.

Compensation:

Affected virtual machines have received the following compensation:

  • One (1) month of free service extension
  • USD $50 in service credit

Important Notice Regarding VPN Usage:

We would like to clearly state that we do not misuse or abuse VPN provider services.

Each RDP virtual machine is assigned its own dedicated private key and operates under an isolated VPN session.

Most commercial VPN providers explicitly support multiple concurrent devices per account. By allocating one private key per virtual machine, we remain well within the providers’ intended usage policies.

We believe that this approach is both financially reasonable and ethically appropriate, and ensures fair use of third-party services while maintaining a high standard of user privacy.
